Planning profile

What will matter most on your PC?

These bars are model signals, not publisher benchmarks. They explain why the same requirements can feel different at 1080p, 1440p and 4K.

CPU workloadHigh

Dense Night City areas and high crowd density can expose CPU limits, especially when targeting a high-refresh 1080p display.

GPU workloadExtreme

Resolution, ray tracing and volumetric effects quickly increase GPU and VRAM pressure. Upscaling is a tuning control, not a quality failure.

Memory & storage16 GB RAM

The 12 GB minimum is a real floor for the current version; 16 GB and an SSD leave more room for Windows, patches and background apps.

How to get a trustworthy answer

A useful “Can I run it?” answer has three layers. Follow them in order so a green minimum check does not get mistaken for a guaranteed FPS result.

Quick answer

Cyberpunk 2077 is demanding on both CPU and GPU. For the current Update 2.0 requirements, 12 GB RAM and an SSD are the minimum starting point. Ray tracing, crowd density and resolution can change the limiting component, so compare the official tier first and then model your exact build.

Average FPS is only one part of the answer

The lower end of the range is a planning guardrail. The 1% low helps explain stutter and uneven delivery, while the likely-limit column tells you which component to investigate first.

Test recipe

Make your result repeatable

Repeat a busy city route with the same crowd, ray-tracing and upscaling settings.

  • Use the same resolution, preset, upscaling and frame cap.
  • Capture average FPS, 1% lows, temperatures and utilisation.
  • Change one setting at a time and keep the comparison fair.

Will a Ryzen 5 5600X bottleneck an RTX 4070 in Cyberpunk 2077?

At 1080p, the CPU can become the practical ceiling sooner, especially in dense city areas and when chasing high refresh rates. At 1440p and 4K, the RTX 4070 normally carries more of the rendering load. That does not make the pairing incompatible: judge it against your resolution, target FPS, ray-tracing choice and measured GPU utilisation rather than a single universal percentage.

Choose a sensible starting preset

1080p high refresh

Start at High, test busy city routes and lower crowd density if frame-time spikes remain CPU-related.

1440p quality

High settings are a sensible baseline. DLSS Quality can create headroom for heavier effects without changing the CPU ceiling.

4K or ray tracing

Expect the GPU and VRAM budget to matter most. Use upscaling, test ray tracing separately and watch the 1% lows.

Verify before buying an upgrade

  • Use the current game patch and a clean, current graphics driver.
  • Repeat the same route or built-in benchmark with identical settings.
  • Record average FPS, 1% lows, frame time, CPU/GPU utilisation and temperatures.
  • Change one setting at a time; lower crowd density for CPU pressure and ray tracing or resolution for GPU pressure.

Upgrade only after you identify whether the GPU is near full utilisation or the CPU is limiting frame time in your target scene.

Cyberpunk 2077 compatibility FAQs

Can Cyberpunk 2077 run with 8 GB RAM?

The current official minimum is 12 GB RAM. An 8 GB system is below the supported Update 2.0 minimum and may also lose performance to background applications and paging.

Does Cyberpunk 2077 require an SSD?

Yes. CD Projekt RED lists 70 GB SSD storage as the minimum for the current Update 2.0 requirements.

Is Cyberpunk 2077 more CPU- or GPU-intensive?

It can stress both. Higher resolution and ray tracing usually increase GPU pressure, while dense city scenes, crowd settings and high frame-rate targets can reveal CPU limits.

Are these FPS numbers guaranteed?

No. They are planning estimates. Validate them with current independent benchmarks and a repeatable test on your own system.
