Frame Time Calculator

See the time budget for every rendered frame. Frame time makes performance differences easier to understand than FPS alone.

Planning estimate only — verify important upgrade decisions with measurements, compatibility checks and independent benchmarks.

How to interpret the result

Lower frame time is faster, but consistency also matters. Average FPS cannot reveal spikes, stutter or poor 1% lows.

Calculation methodology

This is an exact unit conversion using the reciprocal relationship between frames per second and milliseconds per frame.

The calculator runs in your browser from the values you select. Estimates use transparent planning rules and the site’s normalized hardware data; they are not lab benchmarks.

Formula or model used

Frame time (ms) = 1,000 / FPS

Calculation steps

  1. Divide 1,000 by current FPS.
  2. Repeat for target FPS.
  3. Subtract target frame time from current frame time.

Assumptions and limitations

  • Average FPS does not describe frame-time variance.
  • Frame pacing, input latency and display latency are separate measurements.
